What Happens If You Don’t Register Your Globe SIM?
What Happens If You Don’t Register Your Globe SIM? If you don’t register your Globe SIM, it will not activate (new SIMs bought after Dec 27, 2022) or will be permanently deactivated (old SIMs that missed the July 30, 2023 deadline). You lose calls, texts, mobile data, your load balance, GCash access, banking OTPs, and your mobile number — permanently.
Failing to register your Globe SIM triggers a chain of consequences most people don’t expect until it’s too late. The network block is just the first step – GCash, online banking, government portals, and every app that used your number for OTP verification all stop working the moment your SIM goes dark.
This article covers both scenarios — new SIM that won’t activate and old SIM deactivated under the 2023 deadline — and draws directly from Globe’s official SIM Registration Act page and Republic Act No. 11934.
The Two Scenarios: New SIM vs. Old Unregistered SIM
Your situation — and the severity of consequences — depends entirely on when you purchased the SIM.
|
SIM Type |
Registration Rule |
Consequence of Not Registering |
|---|---|---|
|
New SIM (bought after Dec 27, 2022) |
Must register before first use |
SIM stays permanently inactive — cannot make calls, send texts, or use data |
|
Old SIM (bought before Dec 27, 2022) |
Deadline was July 30, 2023 |
Permanently deactivated after July 31, 2023 — number recycled, unrecoverable |
|
Pending registration (incomplete submission) |
Must complete before SIM packaging expiry date |
At risk of automatic deactivation until submission is finalized |
New Globe SIMs (Purchased After December 27, 2022)
Globe’s network is built so no unregistered SIM can connect at all. Darius Delgado, Globe’s VP and Head of Consumer Mobile Business, confirmed this in an official Globe announcement: “No SIM can be used on the network unless registered.”
There’s no grace period, no temporary window, and no partial access. The SIM sits inactive until you complete registration through the Globe SIM Registration portal or the GlobeOne App. You’ll need:
Old SIMs That Missed the July 2023 Deadline
The registration window for pre-existing SIMs ran from December 27, 2022 to July 25, 2023. A final 5-day grace period (July 26–30, 2023) gave remaining holdouts one last chance. On July 26, Globe disabled outgoing services and incoming calls for unregistered SIMs while keeping incoming SMS active so users could still receive OTPs for last-minute registration. After July 30, full permanent deactivation followed.
Scale of deactivation: Globe removed over 30 million SIM cards from its network as a result.
No recovery path exists for SIMs deactivated under the July 2023 deadline. The number has been permanently retired and will eventually be recycled. You must purchase and register a new SIM.
Globe SIM Not Registered Consequences: What You Actually Lose
📵
All Mobile Services Cut Off
Zero calls, texts, or mobile data. Complete network block with no partial access.
💸
Load & Promos Forfeited
Remaining load balance and all active promos are permanently wiped. No refund, no transfer.
🔒
GCash Access Locked
Funds preserved but inaccessible. Recovery via GCash Support takes multiple business days.
🏦
Banking & OTP Apps Fail
Every app using your number for 2FA — banks, Grab, Lazada, government portals — stops working.
☎️
Number Permanently Lost
Deactivated numbers get recycled and reassigned.
No claim process exists.
1. All Mobile Services Stop — Calls, Texts, and Mobile Data
Deactivation triggers a total network block. No outgoing calls, no incoming calls, no SMS, no mobile internet. During the July 2023 rollout, Globe applied this in two phases — outgoing services and incoming calls first, then incoming SMS after the grace period. Both are ultimately severed.
2. Your Load Balance and Active Promos Are Permanently Forfeited
Globe confirmed that all remaining load balances and active promo subscriptions were forfeited on July 31, 2023 — not refunded, not transferable to a replacement SIM. A ₱500 balance and an active GoSURF or GoWATCH subscription were lost permanently for anyone who didn’t act in time.
Note for new SIM holders: If your new SIM never activated because you skipped registration, there’s no load at risk — you never had usable access to begin with.
3. GCash Locks You Out — Funds Are Safe, But Inaccessible
GCash binds every account to a mobile number. When your Globe SIM is deactivated, OTP delivery fails completely. Since GCash requires an OTP for login, fund transfers, cash-outs, and bill payments, you’re fully locked out of the app.
GCash’s official Help Center confirms your balance is preserved and not lost. But recovering access means contacting GCash Support via another number or the web portal, submitting identity verification, and waiting — often several business days.
⚠ Don’t assume “safe” means “accessible.” Your GCash funds exist, but reaching them after SIM deactivation is a multi-step, multi-day recovery process — not a one-tap fix. Don’t wait for deactivation to find this out.
4. Every OTP-Dependent App Stops Working
Any service using your Globe number for two-factor authentication (2FA) or verification becomes inaccessible the moment your SIM goes dark. This includes:
- Online banking apps — BDO, BPI, UnionBank, Metrobank, and most Philippine banks use SMS OTP for logins and transactions
- Government portals — PhilSys, SSS, Pag-IBIG, and PhilHealth online services
- E-commerce and ride-hailing — Lazada, Shopee, Grab, GoTyme, Maya
- Social media accounts linked for phone-based account recovery
Each platform requires its own number-update process — separate identity verification, separate waiting period, per service. The compounding effect of losing a number that anchors dozens of accounts is far more disruptive than the SIM deactivation itself.
5. Your Mobile Number Is Permanently Gone
A permanently deactivated number isn’t held in reserve for you. Globe eventually recycles it back into the available number pool where it can be reassigned to a brand-new subscriber. There is no claim process, no waitlist, and no reversal. If your number was tied to a business listing, decade of accounts, or published publicly — that connection is cut the moment the number is reassigned.
Legal Consequences Under the SIM Registration Act (RA 11934)
Simply failing to register doesn’t expose you to criminal liability — SIM deactivation is the enforcement mechanism for end-users. But RA 11934 creates serious criminal penalties for related violations that most people overlook entirely:
|
Violation |
Who It Applies To |
Penalty Under RA 11934 |
|---|---|---|
|
Submitting false or fictitious information during registration |
End users |
6 months–2 years imprisonment and/or ₱100,000–₱300,000 fine |
|
Selling or transferring a registered SIM without re-registration |
Sellers, resellers, individuals |
6 months–6 years imprisonment and/or ₱100,000–₱300,000 fine |
|
SIM spoofing (faking sender identity) |
Anyone |
Minimum 6 years imprisonment and/or ₱200,000 fine |
|
Telco failure to enforce deactivation rules |
Globe, Smart, DITO |
₱500,000–₱1,000,000 per offense + possible license suspension |
|
Breach of registration data confidentiality |
Any party with data access |
₱500,000–₱4,000,000 fine + imprisonment |
The practical implication: using a fake ID or another person’s ID to register is a criminal offense under Philippine law – not just a registration error. Globe now enforces live photo capture technology, advanced encryption on submitted data, and limited ID submission retries specifically to prevent fraudulent registrations before they occur.
Can You Reactivate a Deactivated Globe SIM?
Deactivated Under the July 2023 Deadline
No reactivation is possible. The number has been permanently retired. Purchase a new Globe or TM SIM — registration is now required before it can activate.
Pending Registration Status (Incomplete Submission)
A “Pending” status means your submission is incomplete — not that you’re registered. Complete the remaining steps through the GlobeOne App or Globe’s registration portal immediately. Full services typically restore within 24 hours of successful completion.
Deactivated for Invalid or Incomplete Documentation
Connect to Wi-Fi and re-attempt registration through the GlobeOne App or official portal. If your ID was flagged — blurry, expired, or mismatched — visit a Globe Store or EasyHub in person with original documents.
Flagged for Suspected Fraudulent Registration
These cases require NTC involvement and are not self-serviceable online. Repeated violations can result in IMEI blacklisting — meaning the device itself, not just the SIM, becomes network-blocked across all carriers.
Common Globe SIM Registration Mistakes That Cause Deactivation
- Blurry or expired ID upload. Globe’s system auto-rejects unclear images and documents past their expiry date. Use natural light, keep all four corners in frame, and verify expiry before uploading.
- Using a pre-existing selfie. Globe requires a live selfie captured in real time during registration. The system uses live photo capture — uploading an old photo fails the biometric check without exception.
- Registering through unofficial third-party sites. Only globe.com.ph/simregistration and the GlobeOne App are valid platforms. Third-party sites offering registration services are either scams or non-compliant — your data submission will not count.
- Not registering each SIM separately. Every Globe SIM — including those in pocket WiFi devices, tablets, and secondary phones — must be individually registered. One submission does not cover multiple SIMs.
- Treating “Pending” as confirmation. Pending is not registered. It signals an incomplete submission. Return to the portal and finish the remaining steps.
- Minor’s SIM registered under the wrong name. SIMs for users under 18 must be registered in a parent or legal guardian’s name using the guardian’s valid government ID, alongside the minor’s personal details.
- Not saving your reference number. After successful registration, Globe shows a reference number on screen. Screenshot it — this is your proof of registration if a dispute arises later.
Frequently Asked Questions
No. Any Globe SIM purchased after December 27, 2022 stays inactive until registration is completed. It cannot connect to the network for calls, texts, or mobile data — there is no temporary access period.
Your GCash balance is preserved and not erased. However, you cannot access those funds until you go through GCash Support — via a different number or the web portal — to re-link your account to a new SIM. Budget several business days for identity verification and account recovery.
Yes — if the SIM was deactivated under the July 2023 mass deadline. Globe officially forfeited all remaining load balances and active promo registrations on July 31, 2023. No refund or transfer was offered.
No. A permanently deactivated number gets recycled into Globe’s number pool and can be reassigned to another subscriber. There is no claim process and no way to reverse the assignment once it happens.
Yes — completely free through the official Globe portal and GlobeOne App. Any website or individual charging for registration is running a scam. Report suspicious sites to Globe at 211.
Visit a Globe Store in person with your valid government ID showing the correct information. Corrections cannot be made through the app or online portal — in-store assistance is required.
Yes. Tourists register with a passport and receive a SIM valid for 30 days, after which it auto-deactivates. Foreign nationals on work permits, student visas, or ACR I-Card holders need additional documents beyond a passport to complete registration.
Under Section 11(d) of RA 11934, using false or fictitious information — including fake IDs — carries 6 months to 2 years imprisonment and/or a fine of ₱100,000 to ₱300,000.
